Kitchen Materials: Concrete
In the last ten years, partially driven by the industrial loft movement, concrete has become a popular material in kitchens for both floors and counters. Properly finished concrete has a high polish and should not be porous. Concrete floors can having heating systems embedded in them to warm the room and take the chil out of the surface.
Concrete offers a wide variety of patinas and color can be adding during the mixing process. It is not unusual for concrete fabricators to build forms and cast counters in place in the kitchen during the construction process. While there are do-it-yourself guides to building concrete counter-tops the margin for error is very low and the skills required are complex.
