The Perfect World Kitchen
Most of us, when imagining our ideal kitchen, should start with a perfect world viewpoint. The perfect world viewpoint simply involves imagining the kitchen we would want in a perfect world. Its a good way to start off the design process. Develop a picture in your head of all the things your ideal kitchen would have if you were unencumbered by concerns about money, space or time. It may help to list everything you’d want, clip pictures from magazines and make sketches. In Part Two we’ll give you a model for an effective way to start the design process. For now, give yourself permission to create a Perfect World kitchen.
The process starts with the following statement:
“In a Perfect World my kitchen would……”

The reasoning behind the perfect world kitchen is simple: You’ll find out what is really important to you without automatically eliminating certain things because of price or other considerations. Often you’ll find that there is a way to make those important aspects of your perfect world kitchen happen within your real world. If you start out by eliminating them, you may never know how easy it might have been to fit them in.
Another part of the perfect world process is that you’ll find out that some fantasy items aren’t really very important when you start to think seriously about them. You’ll be able to assess their importance from the beginning and you may discover that you can eliminate certain things without losing your original vision. This can clear the way for that professional range or those granite countertops that you’d previously decided you couldn’t afford.
From Perfect World To Real World
Once you’ve spent some time in the perfect world, you’ll automatically start making adaptations to the real world. The perfect world exercise helps you define your priorities and develop a vision of how you’d like your kitchen to work, look and live. Once you’ve considered that vision, you’ll need to apply the real world parameters that act as limits and start to design a kitchen that works for you. For most of us those real world parameters include money, time and space.
