Plumbers

Plumbers do more than install sinks and toilets. Plumbing is a complex system involving temperature control, pressure control, drainage, venting and a lot of planning. Without expert knowledge of these subjects the system will not function well and may even represent a safety hazard. Plumbers, like electricians, are licensed and most plumbing work must be inspected. Your plumber will probably appear early in the construction process, at or before the demolition stage and several times afterwards. They help plan what goes where based on your plan and the not always predictable reality of the existing systems. It’s not uncommon to find plumbing in places where you don’t expect it during demolition.
Unlike electrical wires which are easier to relocate, plumbing is solid and requires structural support meaning that any decisions about moving it must involve the plumber and the carpenter to ensure that proper framing integrity is maintained while keeping the drainage and supply lines operating correctly. At the rough-in stage the plumber will rough-in supply, drain and vent lines to their final locations and cap them off temporarily. After cabinetry and walls are installed, they will return and finish hooking up sinks and appliances, placing shut off valves at any location where you may need to isolate a water source in the future.
Plumbing code is equally as complex as electrical code, requiring training and experience to follow properly. You may be able to handle small jobs like hooking up a sink yourself but moving drains and vents requires the experience of a professional.
