Unfitted or Furniture-style Cabinetry
The eighties saw a trend back towards the unfitted or furniture style kitchen, particularly in Great Britain. Unfitted kitchen cabinets are individual pieces of furniture, often freestanding and usually with their own integrated tops. The resulting kitchens feature high levels of craftsmanship but often function poorly due to uneven work surfaces, unconnected runs of counter and a trend-driven determination not to look new. Unfitted cabinetry can work well as islands or work tables that float in a room with a design presence of their own.
