Backsplashes with Tile, Glass, Metal

The walls behind work surfaces are particularly susceptible to splatters and water damage. They are often difficult areas to clean because of overhanging upper cabinetry. For these reasons a durable backsplash is usually installed where the counter meets the wall. These backsplashes may be integral parts of the counters or a surface applied to the wall. Common materials are tile, laminate and stainless steel. Backsplashes offer you another area for design and color and it is common to find decorative tile patterns wrapping around the perimeter of a kitchen in the backsplash.

Besides tile backsplashes, other common backsplash materials include metals like stainless steel, decorative pressed panel of copper or tin like those found in Victorian tin ceilings, glass and laminate. Glass tiles are a hot material for backsplashes but they require an experienced installer to look their best.
